HUMBOLDT, Iowa — Ashlynn Works is continuing her Humboldt connection in high school.
Works is the daughter of James and Andrea Works, formerly of Humboldt in Kansas, before moving to Humboldt, Iowa, where Ashlynn is a sophomore in high school.
Works has been busy in track and field this spring, setting career highs at a state track meet qualifying event May 12 in Gilber, Iowa.
Works threw the discus 114 feet, 11 inches, good for third at the qualifying meet. She equaled the distance with another throw of 114’11” at the Iowa State Track and Field Championships in Des Moines over the weekend, placing 14th.
Works also set a personal record in the shot put at the May 12 qualifier, placing fourth with a throw of 34’10.5”
In Iowa, the top two performances at qualifying meets automatically advance to state, as well as the next eight best performances.
Works is the granddaughter of Joe and Janie Works, Humboldt, and Ron and Connie Rutledge, Iola.
This was her first year as a varsity thrower.
