YATES CENTER — Yates Center High’s Cameron Brown won the individual scoring honors, but his team came up short in the overall contest Thursday evening.
Brown’s 31 points weren’t enough for the Wildcats, who fell behind visiting Neodesha 19-10 after one quarter, a deficit that persisted throughout the rest of the 69-63 loss.
The defeat dropped Yates Center’s record to 3-4 as the Wildcats enter Christmas break.
Brown drained 13 field goals and went 5 of 9 from the line en route to his game-high 31 points. He was countered by Neodesha standout Justice Baird, who made 11 field goals and went 8 of 13 from the stripe to score 30 points before fouling out.
Neodesha led 34-24 at the break and 57-46 after three quarters. The Wildcats outscored Neodesha 17-12 in the final eight minutes but could not overcome the deficit.
Caleb DeNoon added 15 points for the Wildcats, while Robert Arnold had seven. Kyle Johnson scored 16 points for the Bluestreaks.
Yates Center resumes play Jan. 4 at Caney Valley.
