Marmaton Valley’s baseball team did not have the year it had hoped for in terms of wins and losses, but the team had several great individual performances this season and three individuals earned postseason honors.
Senior Keagan Boyd had an outstanding final season in a Wildcat uniform, earning first-team All-League honors for the fourth straight year. He hit .404 with 13 RBIs.
“Keagan has done a great job for us since his freshman year,” Wildcat coach Derek Scharff said. “He batted at the top of our lineup all four years.”
Boyd’s defensive ability will be greatly missed for the Wildcats. Boyd started all four years in center field.
“He has done a great job in center field and covered a lot of ground throughout his high school career,” Scharff said. “His athleticism will make him a very hard player to replace next year.”
The Wildcats also had a pair of other seniors earn honorable mention All-League.
Gage Adams hit .382 while driving in 11 runs. The first baseman had seven extra base hits, including two triples.
“Gage has batted in the top five of our lineup for the past four years and has driven in a lot of runs for us,” Scharff said. “We will definitely miss his defense and production at the plate next year.”
Jake Kress hit .348 from the leadoff spot for Marmaton Valley. Kress was a consistent player for the Wildcats at the top of the order.
“Jake has been our leadoff hitter the past couple of years and did a great job getting on base for us,” Scharff said. “We will miss his leadership next year.”
3 SOFTBALL 1ST-TEAMERS
The Marmaton Valley softball team had three players earn first-team All-League honors.
Senior Ashylynn Pinkerton earned a spot thanks to her play as the Wildcats’ center fielder.
Junior Kyla Drake also earned first-team honors and will be counted on to take a leadership role for the departed Pinkerton next season.
Pitcher Karlie Stephens was named to the first-team after an outstanding freshman year. She was a force for the Wildcats in the pitching circle and with the bat.
