The brackets are set as two Allen County teams play for local sports immortality beginning at Monday’s KSHSAA 2-1A State Championship quarterfinals.

Hot off winning the 2-1A regional tournament, the Marmaton Valley Wildcats (20-5) enter their first state tournament in school history as the fifth seed.

They will be the away team for Monday’s quarterfinal contest against fourth-seed Rossville (23-4).

The game will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the neutral location hosted by Blue Valley West.

If the Wildcats advance, they will face either the eighth-seeded Humboldt Cubs or the top-seeded Thomas More Prep Monarchs (27-1) at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hoglund Stadium, on the campus of the University of Kansas.  The Cubs will make their second consecutive state tournament appearance as the away team at 5:45 p.m. Monday inside Dean Evans Stadium in Salina.

If either team advances, the Cubs or Wildcats could play for a state championship at 6:40 p.m. Friday or the consolation game at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at KU’s Hoglund Stadium.
