MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat teams ended their MVHS Preseason Tournament with losses to newcomers, the McLouth High Bulldog teams.
Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcat girls found themselves at the short end of a 48-32 decision Friday night.
“We couldn’t finish shots down under the basket in the first half and we turned the ball over,” said Kent Houk, Wildcat head coach. “When you do that, you’re not going to win many games.”
The Bulldog girls led 12-3 after one quarter of play and 18-11 at the break. Marmaton Valley played pretty evenly with McLouth the second half but the damage had been done.
The Wildcats (0-4) shot just 20 percent from the field and went 5 of 15 from the free-throw line. Cheyanne Miller scored 14 points for the Cats.
Terri Stewart and Kaitlyn Hullinger each had 13 points for the Bulldogs. McLouth was 11 of 21 from the line.

Marmaton Valley boys’ head coach Denny Lasley figures the Wildcats missed half a dozen or so point-blank shots that just as easily could have fallen in the bucket instead of bouncing out.
Had any of them done so, his team might still be playing.
“It was one of those games were, if we were standing in the middle of the ocean, I don’t think we could hit the water,” Lasley said. “The basket just seemed to have a lid on it.”
A last-second field goal attempt also came up dry as McLouth High eked out a 41-39 win over Marmaton Valley in the third round of the tournament.
“The boys played hard,” Lasley said. “They left everything they had out on the floor.”
McLouth led 11-8 after one period and 15-14 at the break. The Bulldogs held a 29-27 lead after three quarters.
Zach Louk led Marmaton Valley (0-4)  with 11 points. Dalton Houk handed out three assists. Cole Becker and Tanner  Lewis each had three assists and two steals. Gage Stewart had a team-high six rebounds.
Allen Kramer scored 12 to pace McLouth.
Marmaton Valley wraps up its pre-Christmas schedule on Tuesday at home against Jayhawk-Linn.
