Burlington takes three from IMS

The Iola Middle School Mustangs suffered a bit of a setback while hosting the Burlington Wildcats Tuesday evening.

The Iola Mustangs suffered a trio of losses against Burlington Tuesday night.

The eighth-grade team fell, 42-7, the seventh-grade team lost, 30-15, and the junior varsity ended the evening with an 18-3 loss.

The eighth-grade Mustangs opened the evening with a 4 p.m. tip-off. 

Hilary Gean had a team-leading four points and Cora Boren had 3 points after hitting Iola’s only shot beyond the arch.

The seventh grade Mustangs held their own early but could not keep pace with the Burlington Wildcats, who pulled away after holding Iola to a single bucket in the second quarter. 

Cayleigh Rutherford netted a team-leading 7 points. Maicy Kimball scored 3 points.  

In the JV loss, Kimball had a team-leading 2 points. 

The Iola Mustangs return to the hardwood Thursday for a road game against Santa Fe Trail. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
