EL DORADO — Allen County Community College’s softball team may have regretted moving up their doubleheader at Butler Community College a day. The two were to have played today but Thursday saw Butler win two from visiting ACCC.
Butler won the first game 7-4, scoring four runs in the fourth inning. The Grizzlies led 2-1 at the time. Allen County scored three runs in the sixth.
Lenzie Boring was the losing pitcher, giving up eight hits and walking five. She struck out three.
Kelci Owens was 3-for-3 at the plate with three base hits. Hitting a single each were Jenna Sigg, Callie Umholtz, Kelsey Walters, Denise Swanson and Brianne Smedley.
Erin Schwant used a bunt single in the fifth inning to break up a no-hit bid by Butler’s Sarah Shanika. Butler won 8-0 in five innings as Shanika gave up one hit, walked two and struck out six.
Alex Hill took the loss for ACCC. She allowed eight hits, walked one and struck out one.
Butler hit three home runs — Kelli Nicholson, Leah Becker and Simone Patterson — and had two doubles in the game.
The Red Devils are 6-4 overall. They host Iowa Central at 1 p.m. Sunday.
