YATES CENTER — After a slow start, in which Yates Center High led visiting Fredonia by just three points after one quarter, the Wildcats turned began to up their intensity.
Yates Center pushed its lead to double figures by halftime and rolled from there to a 55-36 win.
The win lifts the Wildcats’ record to 12-4.
“We were sluggish the first half,” Wildcat head coach Jason Weilert said. “It wasn’t very clean; very slow paced for both teams.”
Yates Center limited Fredonia to four points in the second quarter to open a 28-18 lead. By the end of the third quarter, the Wildcats led 42-27 to assume full control.
Dalton Smith scored 16 points to lead the victors, while Paul Stockebrand scored 14 with six rebounds. Jake Morrison added 11.
Gaston Millar scored nine to pace the Yellowjackets.
Fredonia won the junior varsity contest 50-20. Austin McNett led the Yates Center JV with four points.
Yates Center travels to Eureka Thursday for a game postponed from Feb. 1 because of snow.
