COLONY — A buzzer-beating putback by Crest Middle School’s Cameron Strickler gave the Lady Lancer B team a thrilling 17-16 win over visiting Marmaton Valley Junior High.
Strickler had missed a free throw, but weaved her way through the lane to get the rebound and get off a shot before the buzzer sounded.
“It was a great defensive game,” Wildcat head coach Kim Ensminger said. “We missed a blockout assignment” on Strickler’s game-winning shot.
Strickler had five points in the two-quarter game. Regan Godderz scored 10 for Crest.
Trinitee Gutierrez and Shayla Brooks scored six points each to lead Marmaton Valley.
In the A team contest, Miranda Golden scored 15 points to lead the Lady Lancers to a 35-24 loss.
“I was pleased with our defensive play,” Ensminger said, noting Golden’s 15 points were below her season average. “I want our girls to become more aggressive on offense and attack the defense more. Each player has to have the desire to score.”
Laurel Godderz added 12 points and Kylee Hammond eight for Crest.
Misty Storrer scored 15 and Kyla Drake seven to lead the Wildcats. Brooklynn Newman had two points.
