COLUMBUS — Iola Middle School’s eighth-grade football team lost 32-6 Thursday night against host Columbus.
The Titans bolted to a 12-0 halftime lead. They beat the Ponies 32-6.
“These kids had a lot going against them  Thursday night and they never quit,” said Marty Taylor, IMS head coach.
Taylor said running back Kaden Macha broke his wrist on the second play of the second half. Quarterback Drew Faulhaber picked up the slack.
Faulhaber scored Iola’s touchdown on a 71-yard run in the fourth quarter. He had 112 yards on nine carries and was 1 of 9 passing for six yards.
The pass was caught by Brock Peters. Macha had 34 yards rushing and Trey Colborn had 13 yards.
“Drew played well. He ran hard and threw the ball really well even if the stats don’t show it. We didn’t play well as a team but we played hard and that says a lot about these young men,” Taylor said.
Macha had four solo tackles and eight assisted tackles. Faulhaber had four solos and two assisted. Caleb Mock recorded three unassisted tackles and four assisted tackles.
Alex Bauer had one solo stop and five assists and Shane Walden  had two solos and one assisted tackle. Colborn had one solo, three assisted and a quarter back sack.
Peters had three assisted tackles and Colton Heffern had two assisted tackles.
Iola falls to 2-3 on the season. It hosts Coffeyville next Thursday.
