COLONY — There was a time not long ago that a four-game losing streak would have left Travis Hermreck fit to be tied.
“I’m sure I’d have been screaming,” he chuckled.
But Friday’s 72-57 loss to Oswego — one of the best in southeast Kansas — left Hermreck encouraged.
Dare we say, even happy?
“Yeah, I’m happy tonight,” he said. “I couldn’t have been prouder of the guys than I am tonight. We’ve had three tough games, and we fell behind tonight, but we kept battling and battling.”
Oswego led 15-6 after one quarter, but couldn’t put the game away until the waning moments.
Crest was within 37-24 at halftime and 57-41 after three.
“Wed put together a run to get close, and they’d push back out,” Hermreck said. “These kids showed a lot of what they’re made of. They put their hearts and their butts into it.”
Five Lancers scored at least eight points, led by Hunter Frazell’s 14. Brock Ellis and Austin Green both scored 11, while Landon Stephens had 10. Kellen Ramsey chipped in with eight.
Kale Yeoman paced Oswego with 17 points. Brad Schenker followed with 16 and Tag Oldham had 15.
But the road doesn’t get any easier.
“We’re looking down the barrel at some more tough games,” Hermreck said.
Crest travels to Uniontown on Monday in a makeup game before visiting Lebo on Tuesday.
