YATES CENTER — Crest High’s 2022 season continues to astound, with some mind-boggling numbers up and down the lineup.

Consider Thursday, when the Lancers rolled to an 18-0 win over host Yates Center in the first game of their doubleheader.

Hard to improve on that, right?

Tell that to the Lancers, who won the nightcap by an even wider margin, 19-0.

The sweep keeps Crest’s record spotless on the season at 16-0, with some impressive individual numbers warranting attention.

Junior Trevor Church, who struck out 11 over five innings of one-hit baseball, has yet to allow a run in 24 innings of work this spring. (Heck, he’s allowed only five hits all season.)

Meanwhile, Rogan Weir went 2-for-3 with a  double, three runs and two RBIs, while batting in the ninth spot in the lineup.

Stetson Setter also scored three runs, with a triple. Ryan Golden, Church, Brayden Goodell, Jerry Rodriguez and Jack White each had singles as well. Golden, Rodriguez and Goodell each had two RBIs as well.

STETSON Setter took the mound in the nightcap. He  struck out nine over four innings, allowing one hit.

The Lancer hitters scored a run in the first, but were held in check until an 18-run fourth inning ended things.

Golden went 3-for-4 with four RBIs to pace the offense. White and Weir both singled twice and drove in two. Setter tripled for the second consecutive game, with an RBI. Karter Miller, Holden Barker and Avery Blaufuss also had singles in the 11-hit attack.

Statistics for Yates Center were not available.

The Lancers, who are batting a collective .397 and have outscored their opponents 230-24, will wrap up the regular season a doubleheader Monday vs. Burden-Central at Rosalia, and two more games at home Thursday against Jayhawk-Linn.

Both doubleheaders should be doozies. Burden-Central is sitting at 12-1; Jayhawk-Linn at 12-4.
