HUMBOLDT — It is difficult to imagine a more dominant start to the season than the one Humboldt’s baseball team enjoyed on Tuesday at home against Neodesha.
Game one starter Daylon Splane allowed a double to Neodesha’s second batter of the game, but after that the Cub pitchers didn’t allow another base runner for the entire doubleheader.
As dominant as the pitchers were, the Humboldt offense may have been even better.
Both games ended because of the 15-run rule after three innings as Humboldt picked up a pair of 15-0 victories.
In game one, Cub freshman Conor Haviland was the offensive star by going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Splane pitched all three innings and allowed only the one base runner while striking out six.
In game two, Lance Daniels drove in five runs while going two-for-two with a double and a triple. Rayce Hoepker also had two hits and scored three runs while notching a pair of RBI.
Hoepker pitched two perfect innings in game two and Wyatt Seufert struck out the side in the third inning to end it.
Humboldt’s next game is at Erie on Thursday.
