The Humboldt Cubs split their final games of the regular season Tuesday night at Cherryvale.
The Lady Cubs got a big 53-35 win while the boys lost on a 75-74 buzzer-beating finish.
The girls improve to 11-7 and the boys are 10-8.
The Humboldt girls beat Cherryvale by a nearly identical score, 52-39, when they played back on Dec. 14. Also similarly, when the Cub boys played the Chargers, they lost in a close 52-48 affair.
Senior Caleb Coronado led the Cubs in a big way with a 26 point, 11 rebound double-double. Senior Bo Bigelow had 17 and junior Conor Haviland had 15.
Bigelow and Haviland also grabbed eight rebounds.
The Cubs went into the fourth quarter leading by a point but late turnovers took the momentum away and allowed Cherryvale to position themselves for a win.
Stats were unavailable for the Humboldt girls.
Both teams will now have the rest of the week off before sub-state play begins on Monday. The Humboldt boys will head into the postseason as the fourth seed while the girls will be the fifth seed.
The boys will host Cherokee-Southeast while the girls will travel to either Yates Center or Cherokee-Southeast.
