NEODESHA — Humboldt High’s boys took the same types of shots they couldn’t get to fall four nights earlier in an exasperating loss to Caney Valley.
But this time they did.
Humboldt shot 51 percent from the field and even better from 3-point range, rolling to a 75-38 win over host Neodesha.
The win lifts Humboldt’s record to 13-2 on the season.
Cub head coach David Taylor noted Neodesha deployed a zone defense, much like Caney Valley had done Friday.
“We were a little tentative on offense at first, but we were able to get out in transition and attack a little better,” Taylor said. “And we defended well.”
The Cubs broke open a 14-11 lead with a 26-12 run spanning the second quarter. The lead ballooned to 63-34 by the end of the third period.
“We hit the final bucket right before the end of the first three quarters,” Taylor noted. “I think it was a little deflating for the other team.”
Six Humboldt players scored at least seven points in the win, led by Hunter Murrow with 17 points and four steals and Kason Siemens with 12 points and four assists. Justin Meins added eight points and four assists. Robbie Sellman also scored eight points, while Jacob Carpenter and Caleb D’Armand had seven apiece. Markiz Pulliam added seven rebounds.
Kyle Johnson scored 11 points and Derrick Rohling had nine for the Bluestreaks.
Humboldt heads to Erie on Thursday in a game postponed from earlier this season. The Cubs will be at home Friday against Fredonia for homecoming.
