Cubs place ninth at Eureka

With 71 team points scored, the Humboldt wrestling team walked away with ninth place overall at the Eureka Invitational on Saturday. 

The Cubs also had four individuals place in the top five in their class led by Noah Johnson, who finished second place in the 220-pound division. 

In addition to Johnson, Gunner Elder finished the day with a 2-1 record for a third-place finish, Josh Vanatta finished fourth with a 1-2 record and Dagen Goodner finished fifth with a 2-1 record. 

The Cubs will hit the road again next week when they travel to Fredonia for their invitational.

120-pound

Clay Shannon (7-7) scored 0 team points.

Champ. Round 1 – Shannon received a bye.

Quarterfinal – Mac Bartel of Hillsboro (8-4) won by fall over Shannon (0:53)

Cons. Round 2 – Logan Smith of Field Kindley (9-10) won by fall over Shannon (1:49)

126-pound

Gunner Elder (13-6) placed 3rd and scored 19 team points.

Champ. Round 1 – Elder won by fall over Jakob McCune of Clearwater (0-2) (1:03).

Quarterfinal – Elder won by fall over Kenneth Crawford of Herington (6-4) (1:32).

Semifinal – Dayton Wade of Caney Valley (12-3) won by fall over Elder (4:42).

3rd Place Match – Elder won by fall over Jordan Bachman of Hillsboro (15-5) (1:52).
