Humboldt Middle School swept Tri-Valley League rival Neodesha Monday night while hosting the Bluestreaks for a trio of contests.
The HMS A-Team won 39-37, the B-Team won 35-22 and the C-Team won 25-10 as Humboldt heats up with just a few weeks left in the regular season.
“We lost to them 42-21 back in December. This was by far the best we have played all year,” Humboldt coach Jeremy Weilert said. “We seemed to play with a fire that was missing the rest of the season. Neodesha only had three losses on the season. Two of those were close losses to undefeated Caney Valley and second place Cherryvale.”
After leading for most of the A-Team contest, Humboldt fought off a late Neodesha rally to hold on for the win.
Elijah Irby and Tate Thomas tied with 13 points each, followed by Mason Gunderman with 7 points, then Waylon Johnson with 6 points. Jonson had a team-leading six rebounds, followed by Irby with five and Gunderman with four.
The HMS B-Team won 35-22, thanks to a strong second half from the Cubs after going on a 25-7 run in the third and fourth quarters.

“We beat the Neodesha B-Team in overtime the first time we played them 38-33,” Coach Weilert said. “This was a big improvement. We still need to get better from the free-throw line.”
Lane Newman had a team-leading 11 points, followed by Aaron Wille with 10, then Eli Seibert with 6 points and Christian Mataka had a pair of buckets.
Wille had eight rebounds, followed by Mason Mueller’s six-board contribution and Newman with three rebounds. Seibert had four steals, followed by Wille and Newman with two each.
The HMS C-Team set the tone for the night with a 25-10 win. Holding the Bluestreaks to just 5 points in the first half, they cruised to victory thanks to an overall team effort.
Kamrin Wooden had 5 points, followed by Charles Fink, Kale Weber and Zaden Mellen with a pair of buckets each.
Ryker Wrestler had six rebounds, followed by Weber with 5 boards, then Izaac Cruise with four rebounds.
“This was a good win for our C-Team,” Weilert said. “We lost to them the first time 26-17. We really improved. Several players stepped it up tonight. We played like a team tonight.”
