ERIE — Uniontown High’s Eagle girls couldn’t buy a bucket in the first half while their hosts — Erie High’s Red Devils were on fire from the field. That slow start hampered the Eagles in a  52-40 loss Friday night.
“It was the tale of two halves. Erie shot lights out in the first half and we were down 13 points at halftime,” said Ken Holt, Eagle head coach. “Our effort was good and we played much better in the second half.”
Holt said the Eagles got within four points several times in the second half but “couldn’t get over the hump.”
Hayden Rathbun paced the Eagles with 15 points and nine rebounds. Hope Jurgensen was credited with three steals and Brooke Harper had three assists.
Bret McGuire fired in 18 points for Erie. Emmalee Mitchell added 12 and Tiffany Dean had 10 points.
Uniontown (4-3) hosts Oswego Tuesday.
The Eagles will be without 5-11 junior forward Jacy Ermel the rest of the season because of medical reasons.
