PRAIRIE VILLAGE — Uniontown High’s girls and boys did not fare well in their first Kansas Class 3A Substate Tournament. The Eagle teams lost in a tournament-opening doubleheader Tuesday.
The Eagle girls scored only two points in the second quarter and lost 43-27 to host Kansas City Christian.
“We really struggled to get any looks inside against their zone,” said Ken Holt, Eagle girls’ head coach. “And we were not hitting our outside shots.”
Uniontown’s girls were up 10-9 after one quarter but fell behind 22-12 by halftime. Kansas City Christian outscored Uniontown 21-15 in the second half.
Hayden Rathbun led Uniontown with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also had three steals.
Hope Jurgensen and Tayler Shook each handed out three assists.
“With all the adversity this team has gone through this year, the girls had a great year,” Holt said.
Mariah Rogers and Morgan Trott fired in 13 points each for KCC.
Uniontown’s boys fell 59-15. No report was given to the Register on the game by press time.
