MOUND CITY — Brenton Esslinger led Uniontown High’s junior varsity golf team to a third-place finish at Thursday’s Jayhawk-Linn High JV Invitational at Sugar Valley Golf Course.
Esslinger shot a personal-best 49 as the third-place medalist. Sugar Valley is Uniontown’s home course.
Joe Barbosa carded a 55 for the Eagles. Reed Gleason shot a 64 and Zak Hueston had a 65. Uniontown’s “fifth man” had a better score than Erie’s giving the Eagles the tiebreaker for third place.
That fifth man was Alex Bradbury with a 66. Seth Bartlett shot a 67.
“I hope Brenton can build off this score and continue to cut a few strokes off,” said Uniontown golf coach Jason Tourtillott. “Joe is just a first-year golfer and gets better each meet. “We have a lot of room for improvement but that comes with practice time and tournament experience,” said Uniontown coach Jason Tourtillott.
Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats combined for a 265 to place sixth. Chance Stevenson finished with a 51 to take the seventh-place medal.
Lane Hamm shot a 63, Tristan Dickerson had a 73, Joey Jefferis had a 78 followed by Austin Pinkerton at 79.
