HUMBOLDT — Breanna Esslinger set a three-point shooting mark for Uniontown High’s Eagle girls in the Eagles’ runaway win over Crest High’s Lady Lancers.
Esslinger went 7 of 9 beyond the three-point arc for 21 points. It broke a UHS single-game record for threes made by Erin Eldridge.
The Eagles steamrolled the Lady Lancers 80-19 in the final round of the Humboldt Preseason Tournament. The Eagles went 2-1 for second place.
Uniontown’s pressure was too much for the Lady Lancers, who are 0-5. The Eagles led 45-10 at halftime.
Jacy Ermel scored 13 points inside for the Eagles plus grabbed six rebounds. She had three blocked shots.
Hope Jurgensen tossed in 13 points for the Eagles. Hayden Rathbun controlled six of Uniontown’s 32 rebounds and had six of its 19 steals.
Lauren Rockhold dished out five of the team’s 24 assists. Uniontown had 13 turnovers.
Crest was led by Kurston Gilliland with six points. Katrina Strickler had five points.
The Eagles were 32 of 65, 49 percent, from the field. That included 10 of 15 from three-point range. They were 6 of 10 from the free-throw line.
The Lady Lancers shot just 19 percent, 6 of 31, from the field and sank 7 of 19 free throw attempts. They had 18 rebounds and 29 turnovers.
The Eagles become road warriors playing their next two games on the road. They are at St. Paul in a Three-Rivers League showdown Tuesday then at Pleasanton Friday.
Crest will play its fifth straight game on the road Tuesday at Central Heights.
