UNIONTOWN — After a tough loss last week, the Uniontown High Eagles team bounced back with a hard fought win Friday night over the Oswego High Indians, 40-30.
After the Indians put the only points of the first quarter on the board, the Eagles fought back in the second period.
Both teams scored two touchdowns in the second quarter as the Indians took a 22-14 halftime lead.
But the second half was all about the Eagles as Uniontown put up eight points in the third period and 18 in the fourth, dwarfing the Indians eight total second-half points.
Helping lead the Eagles to their first victory of the season was running back Zach Travis who rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns.
Also contributing to the ground game was Jordan Woods. Woods had 90 yards and one 6-point score to go along with his five tackles on the defensive side of the ball. As a team, the Eagles rushed for 245 yards on 47 ground attempts. The Indians racked up 185 yards on 34 rushing tries.
Moving the ball through the air was a rarity Friday night as the Eagles only completed two of the six passes attempted for 23 yards. The Indians faired  better through the air with 116 yards on seven of 16 passing. But it wasn’t enough for the Indians to pull out the win.
Turnovers were a big part of the game. Though both teams lost two fumbles during the battle, it was Oswego’s two interceptions that proved to be the difference in the 10-point game. Travis and Dakota Wiley each added seven and six tackles to their defensive stat lines to go along with their interceptions.
Max Labbe had 10 tackles to go along with Robert Kuns’ nine and Jay Hierholzer’s eight.
Penalties plagued the Indians throughout the game, costing them 88 yards on nine penalties. The Eagles committed three fouls to the tune of 20 yards.
