UNIONTOWN — For more than a half, Uniontown High was able to hang tough against an athletic football squad from Christ Prep Academy of Kansas City, Kan.
The Eagles, despite giving up a late touchdown in the second quarter to trail 21-14, responded by driving to open the third quarter and scoring to knot the score at 21 apiece.
But the athleticism of the Patriots turned the table from there. Christ Prep scored the game’s final 20 points to win 41-21.
The loss drops Uniontown’s record to 2-4 on the season.
“We were proud of our kids’ effort tonight,” Uniontown head coach Chris Stroud said.
“We had not hung in and competed against good competition yet this year. We challenged our kids to answer the bell and they did that several times tonight. The kids are playing better and better, gaining some confidence in what we do. That’s a good sign going into districts.”
Uniontown rushed for 251 yards as a team, led by Jordan Woods’ 160 yards on the ground a rushing touchdown.
Zach Travis passed for 116 yards and rushed for 45 more with a pair of touchdowns, one through the air, the other on the ground. Seth Sympson had a receiving touchdown to go with 77 yards. Ty Clayton also rushed for a score.
On defense, Max Labbe registered 13 tackles, while Clayton had 11. Travis recovered a fumble, as did Josh Beerbower. Woods and Matt Maloney forced fumbles.
Christ Pep rushed for 349 yards.
Individual scoring plays were not available.
Uniontown opens Class 3A, District 4 play next Friday at Wellsville.
