Eagles get clipped in CHH Invitational

RICHMOND — Playing quality opponents over the weekend is going to help Uniontown High’s Eagles prepare for this Saturday’s Kansas Class 3A Substate Tournament.
The Eagles won their first two matches in Saturday’s Central Heights High Invitational. They then dropped the next three matches.
“I always look at this tournament as a test to evaluate where we are heading into postseason play,” said Jackie Hall, Uniontown head coach. “It is always a tough tournament for us.”
The Eagles defeated Kansas City Christian 25-17, 25-19 and Osawatomie 25-16, 25-20. Then they lost a three-set match, 25-13, 22-25, 25-20, to Girard.
Central Heights defeated Uniontown 25-16, 25-8. Santa Fe Trail downed the Eagles 25-19, 25-17.
Uniontown had an 11-match win streak broken. It is now 30-5. The Eagles finish the regular season against Marmaton Valley and host Pleasanton Tuesday.
“The teams we were playing played great defense and balls kept coming back at us,” Hall said. “We certainly have some things to work on but they are all thing we are capable of correcting this week.”
In the KC Christian match, Jessie Camac served up eight points and had four kills for the Eagles. Jacy Ermel downed nine kills at the net. Tayler Shook had 14 set assists and Tiffany Poyner had 24 digs.
Ermel served for 13 points and delivered seven kills against Osawatomie. Ashley Nietfeld pounded down eight kills and Camac had five kills. Shook put up 21 set assists and Poyner had 22 digs.
Jessica Murrow served up 14 points against Girard as Ermel led the net attack with 13 kills on 28 of 32 attacks. Hayden Rathbun, Nietfeld and Camac each had two kills.
Poyner came up with 37 digs. Shook had 23 assists.
Against Central Heights, Rathbun had two service points and one kill. Shook had two service points and nine assists. Nietfeld downed two kills and Poyner had 20 digs.
In the Santa Fe Trail match, Hope Jurgensen served four points. Ermel, Camac and Rathbun each had three kills and Nietfeld had two. Shook was credited with 11 assists. Poyner had 27 digs.
Uniontown is in a Class 3A substate at Northeast-Arma Saturday.
