Eagles win TRL tournament

PLEASANTON — Uniontown High’s Eagles did not lose a game in going undefeated and defending their Three Rivers League PreSeason Tournament title Saturday.
The Eagles won six matches in the Pleasanton High gyms. They decked Oswego 25-22, 25-13 in the championship match.
Jessica Harrison served up 10 points. Jacy Ermel delivered 13 kills and Ashley Nietfeld had six block assists.
Jessie Camac downed four kills and Hayden Rathbun had three kills. Harrison had two kills.
“We had a very good day of volleyball. I was concerned with this tournament since we are not in school yet. I didn’t know how we would respond,” said Jackie Hall, Uniontown High head coach.
“The girls did great. We’ve had great practices in our gym but it is always exciting to see how your team will react on the court against other teams.”
Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats posted a 3-3 mark on the day. That was two wins better than last year.
“I was extremely proud of the girls and the way they played Saturday,” said Lindsay Ermel, Marmaton Valley High head coach. “They all work hard in practice and push each other to make the team better as a whole and it showed this weekend.”
Marmaton Valley opened the tournament against Uniontown. The Eagles won 25-19, 25-10. Camac and Ermel each served for seven points.
Ermel had nine kills, four block assists and two solo blocks. Harrison had four kills. Nietfeld had four block assists and Camac had two solo blocks.
Uniontown beat Chetopa 25-10, 25-11 led by Camac with nine service points and Lauren Rockhold with eight service points. Ermel pounded down 12 kills and Rathbun had two kills. Nietfeld made one solo block and had one block assist.
Camac served 21 consecutive points, which was a new UHS record, in the Eagles’ 25-4, 25-13 win over Crest High’s Lady Lancers. Camac had 22 service points in the match. Rathbun had three kills and Ermel had two kills.
Uniontown beat St. Paul 25-20, 25-12. Ermel and Nietfeld continued to lead the net attack. Ermel had 10 kills while Nietfeld had a solo block and eight assist blocks. Harrison had five kills and Rathbun had three kills.
Poyner had eight service points and Camac had seven. Camac made two solo blocks and three block assists.
In a 25-17, 25-20 win over Northeast, Rathbun served for 13 points and had five kills. Ermel had eight kills and five block assists. Harrison had five kills and four block assists, as did Camac. Nietfeld had a solo block and four block assists.
Marmaton Valley bounced back in its second match to beat Chetopa 25-11, 25-13. The Wildcats lost 25-13 4-25, 25-22 to Oswego.
Marmaton Valley nailed down a 25-13, 25-10 win over Altoona-Midway the beat Pleasanton 25-17, 15-25, 25-10. St. Paul defeated the Wildcats 29-27, 25-15.
Cheyanne Miller had 24 kills and 36 set assists for the day for the Wildcats. Maggie Meiwes had 15 kills and 12 service aces.
Kayla McNutt had 12 kills and served for 21 points. Hannah Endicott served for 28 points, including 10 ace serves, and had eight kills at the net. Lydia Lance had 33 set assists.
Morgan Henry had six kills. Kayley Boyd handled the back row with 52 digs and Kacie Shadden had 23 digs.
Kaitlyn Ensminger served 28 points, which included a 15-point run in a game and four ace serves.
The Register did not receive a report on the Crest matches from the tournament.
On Tuesday,  Uniontown goes to Girard and Marmaton Valley, Crest and Yates Center are at Madison.
