EUREKA — The Humboldt High Cub’s football team lost their second strait game, falling to the Eureka Tornados Friday night, 46-23, in Eureka.
The Cubs started strong, putting the first points on the board after Noah Thornbrugh punched a 7-yard touchdown run into the end zone, the only points of the first quarter by either team.
But in the second period, things went south for the Cubs, giving up 16 points while only managing eight of their own. Those eight points came off of a 1-yard run by quarterback Nathan Whitcomb. The Cubs went into the locker room at halftime trailing 15-16.
In the second half, the Tornados ran away with the game, scoring 14 unanswered points in the third quarter and outscoring the Cubs 16-8 in the fourth. The Cubs lone second half score was a 23-yard rush by Thornbrugh.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ryan Gean led the Cubs with 12 tackles. Jud Hawley and Hayden Boring each recorded 6 tackles of their own. Zach Osborne had an interception.
The Cubs accumulated 182 total rushing yards on 34 carries and 46 passing yards on four complete passes. The Cubs were four for 20 through the air.
