CHANUTE — When Iola High’s tennis team traveled to Chanute on Thursday afternoon, coach Jenn Bycroft knew her players would have to face highly competitive schools in Fort Scott, Coffeyville and Chanute.
But what she didn’t expect was that the Fillies would have the additional challenge of facing the elements as well.
“We battled the awful winds, so we had to learn how to make adjustments each time we switched sides of the court,” Bycroft said.
Senior Bobbi Sinclair once again led Iola with two victories in three matches while fellow senior Chyanne Vaughn recorded two wins of her own.
Although the two doubles teams for Iola combined for just one victory in six tries, Bycroft said she saw some positive strides from her team Thursday.
“Good to see some improvements on things we have been working on in practice,” Bycroft said.
