GARNETT — Iola High’s volleyball squad followed an exasperatingly familiar pattern Tuesday.
The Fillies played evenly in a pair of matches against their hosts from Anderson County High School.
In straight-set losses in both contests, Iola battled evenly through the first dozen or so points before faltering in the latter stages.
Anderson County’s 25-14, 25-14 and 25-15, 25-18 victories end the regular season for Iola.
Now the Fillies await today’s seeding announcement for Saturday’s Class 4A Substate tournament in El Dorado.
Head coach Emily Sigg said after the match she expected Iola to have the seventh seed, possibly against Towanda-Circle.
“Fourteen, 15 (points) have been our limit … we just can’t get past that,” Sigg said. “It’s disappointing because we play really great up to that, then we just stop. I think the girls recognize that, too.”
Emery Driskel led the way in the first match with five kills, a solo block, an assisted block, four digs and two aces. Katie Thompson added four kills, a dig and an ace. Kyra Moore had five assists, two kills and a dig. Addie Haar had a pair of kills, while Breanna Stout had two solo blocks, two digs and an ace. Emma Sigg and Hannah Endicott provided five and two digs, respectively. Emma Piazza had two digs and an ace.
In the second match, Stout had five kills and two assisted blocks. Driskel had three kills, three solo blocks, two assisted blocks and five digs. Haar knocked in three kills and a set assist. Endicott and Emma Sigg had five and three digs, respectively. Thompson delivered two kills with an ace. Piazza had four set assists and a kill.
