Iola High’s junior varsity’s night started out well. The Fillies beat Fort Scott No. 2 25-19, 25-12.
Then things passed them by. Fort Scott No. 1 beat Iola 25-21, 25-22 and Independence handed the Fillies a 25-22, 25-17 loss.
“Our passing made all the difference tonight. The girls weren’t communicating well,” said Casey Greenwood, IHS assistant coach. “When things went well it was all because of great passing and hustling.”
In the opening match, Tori Snavely, Katie Thompson, Keli Lee and Celeste Ambrose each had a service ace. Thompson downed three kills and Ambrose, Lee and Emma Sigg each had a kill.
Against Fort Scott No. 1, Ambrose had two service aces and Thompson had one. At the net, Sigg, Lee and Ambrose each had two kills, Thompson, Paige Miller and Hannah Barclay each had a kill.
In the Independence match, Ambrose had three service aces while Thompson and Lee each had one. Ambrose and Miller downed two kills each. Thompson and Barclay had one kill each.
The junior varsity (2-5) plays at home Thursday.
