Although the Fillies volleyball season ended with a fourth place finish at the Class 4A-II State-Tournament, it was just announced the team had three players selected to the Pioneer All-League Teams.
Both Emery Driskel and Emma Piazza were named to the first-team and Kyra Moore earned a second-team selection.
“All three made it last year, so I expected them to make it again this year,” coach Emily Sigg said. “They deserved it.”
Driskel was on the first-team last season, while Piazza and Moore were both named to the second-team.
“It’s super exciting,” Piazza said. “It was kind of a goal of mine, my own personal goal other than the team’s. I’m really excited about it.”
It was a great way to end a stellar season of Fillies volleyball. The team’s fourth place finish was a first for Iola volleyball — no other team has placed at the state tournament before.
“We wanted to win it obviously,” Piazza said. “But, overall we were very pleased with everything. Fortunately, it was a fantastic place to be in the end.”
All three are seniors.
“It’s always an honor to get on the list. I can nominate whoever I want, but the other coaches have to vote on it,” Sigg said. “So, it’s nice they recognized they were top players in the league. I think that’s an honor for them. It’s something they should be proud to leave the season with.”
