Iola High’s girls battled through fatigue and eventually darkness in their only home competition of the year.
The Fillies tennis team took third in a four-way competition at the IHS tennis courts.
“We have been working on some things in practice that seem to affect us a lot when we go to compete,” head coach Jenn Taylor said. “We just need to continue working on those situations so that we can be ready. I’m still seeing improvements.”
Bobbi Sinclair went 2-1 in No. 1 singles play.
She romped past Abbey Peterson of Columbus, 8-0, before dropping a tough, 8-5, set to Independence’s Meredith Taylor. Sinclair rebounded to down Abbi Ford of Parsons, 8-1.
“I was glad to see Bobbi go 2-1,” Bycroft said. “She played tough.”
Chyanne Vaughn went 1-2 in No. 2 singles play. She opened play by sweeping Emily Newberry of Columbus, 8-0, before falling, 8-1, to Independence’s Amanda Trout. Vaughn narrowly missed a second win, dropping an 8-7 tie-breaker to Parsons’ Kelsey Smith. Smith won the tie-breaker, 8-6.
