EL DORADO — Connor Frazell, sophomore placekicker and punter for Butler Community College, was named the first-team punter for the 2011 Jayhawk Conference football season and the NJCAA Region VI.
The all-conference and all-Region VI football teams were announced this week.
Frazell, former Iola High standout kicker, also was selected as second-team placekicker in the Jayhawk Conference and Region VI. He is the son of Tammi and Jay Don Frazell of Iola.
Frazell stands second in Region VI scoring with 97 points. He is first in scoring by kicks with 97 points, which also leads the NJCAA in the scoring kicking category.
Frazell is atop the list in Region VI, hitting 10 of 17 field goal tries this season. He is 67 of 70 in extra-point attempts.
Frazell and the Jayhawk Conference and Region VI champion Butler Grizzlies learned this week they will play Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals of Texas in the third annual Citizens Bank Bowl. Butler is ranked third in the NJCAA and Trinity Valley is ranked 10th.
The game is slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, Dec. 4, at Carnie Smith Stadium on the Pittsburg State University campus.  The bowl game is sanctioned by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
“We are incredibly excited about the match-up for our bowl game,” said Dean Mann, owner and chairman of Citizens Bank.  “Butler and Trinity Valley are high-caliber teams, and we are proud to bring such a great event to Pittsburg and Southeast Kansas.  The first two years of the bowl provided a tremendous opportunity for area football fans to see the best of what junior college football has to offer, and this year will follow that tradition.”
Butler, El Dorado, finished the regular season at 10-1.  Trinity Valley, located in Athens, Texas, is 8-2 including a win over last year’s bowl winner and NJCAA Champion, Navarro.
Tickets are available at the PSU ticket office, and through PSU’s online ticketing. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students K-12 in general admission seating.
Reserved club seating on both the west and east sides of the stadium is available for $15 per ticket.  More information on the game can be found at www.citizensbankbowl.com.
