Spearheaded by senior Jordan Strickler, Iola High’s tennis team won their fair share of matches Thursday afternoon.
The Mustangs were greeted with storybook weather conditions (with a touch of wind) against Parsons, Independence and Columbus.
Strickler, in the no. 2 singles slot, won all three of his matches.
“Jordan had a very good day,” IHS coach Lyle Kern said. “Both Independence and Parsons brought their second teams, but Independence is so good, they still won the tournament.”
Iola’s no. 1 singles player, Tyler Heinrich, went 1-2 on the day.
“As Tyler gets older, he’s going to become a heck of a tennis player,” Kern said.
Both of Iola’s doubles teams — Stephen McDonald and Mason Key in the number one slot; Bryan Mueller and Colby Works in the other — both went 1-1 on the day.
The tennis team gets the week off for spring break before returning to action March 28 in Coffeyville. Also participating will be Pittsburg, Columbus and Chanute.
