GIRARD — The Humboldt Cubs hope to quickly put their most recent trip to Girard behind them after falling to the Trojans 10-0 and 11-1 Friday.

A bases-loaded walk in the third inning of the opener accounted for Humboldt’s only run of the evening.

Junior pitcher Gavin Gunderman and freshman third baseman Tucker Wrestler accounted for Humboldt’s two hits in the opener.

Gunderman took the loss, tallying a strikeout as starter and allowing six runs on six hits and a walk.

Freshman Mason Miller came on in relief during the third inning, posting a trio of strikeouts but allowing four runs on four hits and two three innings.

Humboldt went scoreless in the mercy-rule shortened finale.

Gunderman, senior pitcher Grady Elder and freshman first baseman Bentley Kolb each had one hit.

With the loss, the Cubs’ record fell to 1-3.

They look to get back at .500 Tuesday, when they jump back into the Tri-Valley League on the road against the Bluestem Lions. First pitch for Tuesday’s opener is at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. for the finale.
