The Humboldt Middle School boys and girls hosted Caney Valley on Monday. The girls split while the boys teams all lost.
Mondays lone win belonged to the Humboldt girls B-team who beat Caney 18-4.
Melina Hess and Elizabeth White both had four points and Morgan Hunter, Ashlynn Works and Kadence Ballard each had four rebounds.
Meeka Harris and Melina Hess each had five steals.
I thought the girls did a great job in their game tonight, head coach Jason Weilert said. We were able to run several different defenses and we got all 10 girls a good amount of playing time.
Before that, the A-Team lost 23-19.
Carsyn Haviland had nine points, Karley Wools had six points and Emily Ross had six rebounds.
The ladies were much improved from our last outing, Weilert said. We did a better job of breaking the press and running our offense at times. We also had girls that started to play with more confidence at the end of the game.
Meanwhile, the Humboldt boys opened with a 31-19 C-Team loss.
Landon Bauer had six points, Brennen Nuessen had five, Caden Vink had four and Robbie Robinson and Bradley Lowry each had two.
The B-Team lost 32-7.
Bauer had three points, Sam Hull had three points and nine rebounds and Garren Goodner had a point and four rebounds.
The A-Team lost 47-22.
Trey Sommer had nine points and five rebounds, Maddox Johnson had five points, Aiden Gean had four points and three rebounds and Dakota Slocum had four points and three steals.
I think we took some steps in the right direction tonight, Weilert said. They are a much more physical team than us. They forced us to turn the ball over more than we normally do.
Both Cub boys and girls will host Eureka on Thursday.
