The Iola Riverside Horseshoe club hosted the ninth Roy Karr Memorial Horseshoe Tournament Saturday in connection with the Allen County Fair.

The state-sanctioned qualifying tournament is part of the Iola’s club’s rebuilding effort after membership dwindled during the COVID-19 pandemic, a pair of recent floods in Riverside Park, and the loss of several members who have since hung up their horseshoes.

Intermittent rain showers did little to slow the action, organizers noted.

Jerry Dugan of Galena won the Class A competition with a 5-1 record. Russell Clodfelter, Cameron, Mo., finished second with a 3-3 record.

Terry Johnston, Bronson, was tops in Class B with a 6-0 mark. Don Lake of Topeka took second with a 4-2 record.

The Iola Riverside Horseshoe Club is resuming open league play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Members are welcome to throw as many games as they like, and attendance is not mandatory.
