MORAN — Marmaton Valley High head football coach Kent Houk has resigned his position, effective immediately.
Houk handed in his resignation on Wednesday, two days before the Wildcats were scheduled to open their 2013 season Friday night at Chetopa.
Marmaton Valley athletics director Mike McEwan said Houk had taken on a job elsewhere, “that didn’t allow him to continue coaching.”
The Register was unable to contact Houk for comments.
“It’s unfortunate, but we understand,” McEwan said. “A person has to provide for his family.”
The Wildcats will be manned by three “co” head coaches: Dan Uhlrich, Kyle McAloon and Derek Scharff.
“Each has his own responsibilities,” McEwan said.
Houk coached the football team for three years, going 20-10, including two straight trips to the Kansas eight-man playoffs. The Wildcats are coming off a 10-1 season.
