Humboldt and Yates Center compete at Marion

MARION — Humboldt and Yates Center traveled to Marion on Friday for the 2A regional track meet and the Cub boys came away second overall to go with a handful of state qualifiers. 

Tucker Hurst led the way for the Cubs, qualifying in all three throwing events. He took first in the javelin with a personal best 173’10”. He took third in the discus with a trow of 138’11” and fourth in the shot put with a personal best distance of 45’10”.

Isiah Coronado took second in the 400 (52.53) and third in the 100 with a time of 12.17. 

Coronado also qualified in the 4×400 along with Drake Harrington, Seth Barlow and Caleb Coronado after finishing third with a time of 3:40.29. 

Barlow also took third in the 800 (2:09.44) and first in the 4×800 along with Drew Wilhite, Harrington and Isiah Coronado with a time of 9:01.38. 

For the girls, Savanna Puckett finished first in the 400 (1:03.94) and fourth in the 200 (29.15). 

Jailynn Goforth took third in the high jump with a height of 4’8” and Kaylie Johnson took fourth in the triple jump (34’11.75”). 

Yates Center

Senior Hadley Splechter will be joined by one other Wildcat in his final trip to a state track meet. 

Splechter qualified by taking first in the 800 (2:06.22), 1600 (4:51.60) and the 3200 (10.27.85). The senior is expected to repeat as a champion in Wichita this weekend. 

Thayne Smith also qualified in the 100-meter dash with a first-place finish with a time of 11.88. Smith finished 15th at state last year. 

State kicks off early Friday morning with both schools competing in the early session.
