HUMBOLDT — The Humboldt Cubs celebrated their “Senior Night” the right way with a pair of wins over Caney Valley and Neodesha on  Tuesday in Humboldt.
The matches honored the careers of Annalise Whitcomb, Tilar Wells and Kira McReynolds.
“Our three seniors, Tilar, Kira and Annalise, have been great leaders for our team this year,” Humboldt coach Terry Meadows said.
The Cubs started the evening with a straight-set victory over Caney Valley, 25-13 and 25-13.
Whitcomb and Wells ran the team during the victory with Whitcomb leading the team with 16 assists and Wells was second with three.
Lizzie Myers led the team with seven kills and three aces. Aricah McCall and Whitcomb each also contributed five kills and Kaylie Johnson chipped in four.
Whitcomb also had a team-high five digs.
The Cubs had a slight letdown in the first set of their second match of the night against Neodesha. They fell 25-23.
Humboldt rallied and won the second and third set, 25-19 and 25-13, to win the match.
Sydney Houk and McCall’s strong serving was a major factor in the comeback. Both players recorded five aces with no service errors.
Johnson led the team with seven kills and McCall added six. Whitcomb recorded 20 assists.
“I am super proud of the girls tonight,” Meadows said. “We came out and got two big wins in league play.  Once we found our rhythm against Neodesha, we were able to slow them down a bit and pass the ball well.”
