The Cub softball program wasted very little time making a statement to their league that they will again be a force to be reckoned with this season.
Returning All-State pitcher Courtney Richey pitched five innings in the game one 14-0 win.
She allowed only one hit and one walk in that game. Of the 15 outs she recorded, 13 of them came via the strikeout.
The Humboldt offense was silent in the first inning, but after that provided Richey with solid run support each inning.
They scored two in the second, three in the third, five in the fourth and capped the scoring with four in the fifth inning.
Richey provided herself with a lot of that run support going 4-for-4 at the plate in game one.
Sophomore Rylan Wilhite picked up the win in game two’s 24-0 victory.
The game was shortened down to three innings due to the lop-sided score.
Wilhite allowed only one hit and one walk in the game and she struck out three batters.
“Courtney and Rylan both pitched great,” said coach Brad Piley.
Wilhite, Makaylah McCall and Morgan Mauk each went 4-for-4 at the plate in the second game blowout.
Humboldt will take the field again on Thursday night against Erie.
