On top of hosting its own track meet Monday — results were posted in Wednesday’s Register — Humboldt High’s athletes kept busy with other recent events.

Monday’s meet had originally been scheduled for last Thursday, but was postponed due to weather.

The opening allowed head coach Eric Carlson to take a small cadre of athletes to a meet in Remington Friday.

“It turned out to be a beautiful day, and we had some good performances,”

Leading the charge was Drew Wilhite, who took home first place in the 400 meters at 53.59 seconds and first in the high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches, while placing third in the 200 at 24.1 seconds.

Levi McGowen took second in the triple jump, 40’8”; fourth in the 400, 54.58 seconds; and fifth in the 200, 24.25 seconds.

Colton Johnson added a third-place finish in the high jump at 5’8”.

Despite taking only four boys, Humboldt still took fifth as a team out of 11.

On the girls’ side, Humboldt’s Lizzy Neeley finished fifth in the high jump at 4 feet.

She teamed up with Lexlee Sanches, Assya Goforth and Sophie Barlow to take fifth in the 4×800-meter relay at 13 minutes, 50 seconds.

MEANWHILE, Humboldt took several throwers to the inaugural Jeff Wyrick Throwers Only Invitational in Caney May 3.

There, Maddox Johnson took gold in both the shot put and discus and second in the javelin. Johnson’s discus throw covered 137’1”, and his shot put heave covered 44’1”, a personal record that lasted all of a week. (He subsequently topped it at Humboldt’s meet Monday.)
