HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s varsity volleyball team split its matches Tuesday night.
The Lady Cubs started with a three set loss to Eureka. Humboldt won the second set 25-12, but lost the first set 25-20 and the tiebreaker 29-27.
“We had our opportunities in this match,” coach Stephanie Splechter said. “We have to work on our decision-making at critical times.”
Breanna Kline had 14 kills to lead the team, as well as an assist and seven digs. Annalise Whitcomb had an ace, seven digs and 21 assists. Sydney Houk had four kills and four digs. Tiler Wells had an ace, three kills and 10 digs. Brook Turner had one kill, one assist and two digs. Delaney Umholtz had two kills and two digs. Megan Hudlin had an ace and two digs.
Humboldt followed the loss by beating Cherryvale 25-22 and 25-13.
“We started off flat and got way behind in the first set,” Splechter said. “The girls did a good job of fighting their way back and finishing strong.”
Kline had 12 kills, two aces, two assists and two digs. Whitcomb had 20 assists, three digs, two kills and an ace. Wells had three kills. Umholtz had three aces, a kill and three digs. Turner had an ace, two kills, an assist and a dig. Houk had two kills and Hudlin had a dig. Makaylah McCall had two kills.
The Lady Cubs travel to Neodesha Saturday for a tournament, which starts at 9 a.m.
