IHS youth is served

While several upperclassmen continued to shine on the track, a number of younger IHS athletes have begun to make their marks.

OSAWATOMIE — Underclassmen at Iola High continue to reach the upper echelon at track and field competitions.

On Thursday, Iola’s Japheth  Rutoh and Cole Moyer brought home gold medals at the Francis Wendt Invitational Track Meet, hosted by Osawatomie High School.

Rutoh, a sophomore, cleared 5 feet, 10 inches, in winning the boys high jump. Moyer, a freshman, once again topped all challengers in winning the 3200-meter run in 11 minutes, 5.38 seconds.

There were several other standouts along the way.

Senior Ally Ellis brought home second in the long jump and third in the javelin, while Sage Barney took third in the pole vault. Karingten Hall finished in second in the 100 meters and fourth in the 200. Teammate Anna Beckwith took fourth in the 400.

Meanwhile, the girls relay teams finished first in the 4×400, second in both the 4×100 and 4×200 and fourth in the 4×800.

ON THE boys side, Brett Willis took second in both the 100 and 200, while Eli Adams was runner-up in the 400. Kobe Lord claimed silver in the long jump, Kaster Trabuc took third in the 800 and fourth in the 1600,  Justin McCullough took second in the discus.

Relay teams took first in the 4×800, second in the 4×100 and third in the 4×200.
