COFFEYVILLE — Iola Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball A-Team wasn’t able to beat Coffeyville on Monday in a rematch from last Thursday’s home game in which Iola won.
The Ponies lost 36-19.
“We did a lot of good things tonight, but our guards got a little careless with the ball for about a three-minute stretch and we missed 26 shots within five feet of the basket,” coach Marty Taylor said. “Against a good team like Coffeyville, you just can’t do that.”
The team did do a good job of rebounding. Ian Maynard collected 15 boards, while leading the team with nine points. Tayton Driskel brought down 10 more rebounds, scoring two points. Kane Rogers secured seven rebounds and scored three points. Blake Ashmore finished with three points and Cole Regehr scored two.
The B-Team lost 28-20.
Jeremy Waldman led the team with six points. Dylan Newland and Tim Komma each followed with five points. Blake Haar and Jon Miller scored a basket apiece.
The seventh grade A-Team lost 53-31.
Cal Leonard scored 12 points to lead the Ponies. Devon Reiter scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Brady Wiggin had a basket and six rebounds. Cason Barker finished with seven points.
“The effort was good tonight, way more positives than negatives,” Taylor said. “Cal had more energy tonight and did a nice job. Devon Reiter played really well inside.”
The B-Teams for seventh and eighth grade host Pittsburg and Humboldt on Saturday.
