OSWEGO — Falling 6-5 in 10 innings took the starch out of the Marmaton Valley High Wildcats Thursday. Oswego High’s Indians notched a 15-0 win in three innings in the second game.
“We should have put the first game away early. We had a great opportunity to win and didn’t make plays in the bottom of the seventh,” said Derek Scharff, MVHS baseball head coach.
The Wildcats led 5-0 after four innings and had a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Indians scored four to tie and force extra innings.
Ethan Ericson pitched 61⁄3 innings for Marmaton Valley. He was charged with four runs on three hits and three walks plus had 13 strikeouts.
Tanner Lewis threw three innings and took the loss. He gave up two runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Taylor Lhuillier had a three-run home run. Ericson hit a two-run shot plus had two singles.
Lewis hit three singles and Jimmy Frye and Derrick Carr each had two singles. Jerad Kale and Gage Stewart had one single each.
Marmaton Valley had just three hits in the second game. Lewis had two base hits and Lhuiller had a base hit.
Lhuillier pitched 11⁄3 innings giving up 10 runs on five hits and four walks. He struck out two. Becker pitched 11⁄3 innings, allowing five urns on three hits and a walk.
Marmaton Valley fell to 2-6 in Three Rivers League play. The Wildcats are 2-15 overall.
