Indians beat the Cubs

HUMBOLDT — Big innings were a problem for Humboldt High’s Cubs Friday at home. Oswego High’s Indians used big innings in both games to win 14-3 and 7-2.
“We usually have one big inning that kills us,” said Jermey Weilert, Cub head coach as his team fell to 2-12 overall.
“We gave up seven runs in the fourth inning of the first game then five runs in the fourth again in the second game.”
In the first game, Seth Nickell pitched four innings for Humboldt. He allowed nine runs on eight hits and four walks. he struck out four. Derrik McCall threw three innings, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks.
Jacob Manbeck had a triple and a single and Nickell had two singles. Chris Coronado and Ryan Gean had a single each.
Elijah Friederich took the loss in five innings in the second game. He surrendered four hits, walked one and struck out three.
“Elijah pitched well enough to win the game. We just weren’t able to get it down in the field or at the plate,” Weilert said.
Manbeck had a triple and a single. Hitting a single each were Coronado, Nickell, Dustin Prock, Cole Morrison and Riley McMillen.
Humboldt hosts Uniontown Thursday.
