ST. PAUL — Uniontown High’s Eagle girls and boys opened Three Rivers League play on the road Tuesday against St. Paul High’s Indians. The home teams claimed the victories.
“We shot ourselves in the foot during the second quarter with 14 turnovers,” said Uniontown girls’ head coach Ken Holt. “We came all the way back in the second half but couldn’t get the lead.”
St. Paul’s girls held on to win 48-42, using that 19-6 second quarter run to get the lead and keep it. Uniontown’s girls fell to 0-1 in TRL play and 3-2 overall.
Jacy Ermel scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds for the Eagle girls. Morgan Westhoff of St. Paul also scored 22 points plus Kacie Phillips had 13 points.
After wiping out a seven-point halftime deficit, the Eagle boys pulled even with the Indians at the end of the third quarter. The teams went into the final eight minutes tied 46-46.
St. Paul outscored Uniontown 16-6 down the stretch for a 62-52 win.
Brenton Esslinger poured in 18 points for the Eagles. Zach Travis added 15.
DJ Vitt led St. Paul with 14 points. Willie Westhoff and Schibi had 11 points each.
