COFFEYVILLE — Iola Soccer Club’s A-team lost a heartbreaker to Independence Sunday at Coffeyville. Independence notched a 2-1 win over Iola.
Iola’s goal was scored by Devan Herfurth. Mason Key had eight saves in goal for Iola and Ethan Tavares had three saves as goalkeeper in the second half. The loss puts Iola in second place in the SEK soccer league at 5-2 and Independence is 5-1-1.
Iola plays its last home game Sunday against Coffeyville at 2 p.m.
Iola’s B-team claimed a 2-0 win over Coffeyville B last Sunday in Coffeyville. Key and Joey Zimmerman scored the goals for Iola. Tavarez had four saves and Zimmerman made three as goalkeepers.
Iola B plays Coffeyville B at 4 p.m. Sunday at home.
