Iola and Humboldt middle school junior varsity meet up

The Iola Middle School boys basketball team hosted Humboldt and Pittsburg on Saturday morning.
Iola went 1-1 and Humboldt went 0-2 with both teams falling to Pittsburg and Iola beating Humboldt 28-16.
The Ponies opened up their game against Humboldt outscoring the Cubs 7-2 after the first quarter. An 8-8 second quarter kept Iola’s lead at five going into the half. A 10-3 third quarter piled seven more points on to their lead which led to a 3-3 fourth quarter to give Iola the win.
For the Ponies, Deacon Perkins led the way with seven points followed by five for Ashten Beerbower. Pierce Beasley and T.J. Taylor each had four points and Devon Wilson, Colin Long, Kobe Lord and Kolten LaCrone each scored two points.
Beerbower grabbed eight rebounds and Perkins ended the game with three steals.
For the Cubs, Robby Cook had eight points and five rebounds while Hunter Bauer had five points and three steals and Zach Draper had three points.
The Ponies lost to Pittsburg 36-2.
Kyler Mittelmeier had Iola’s two points. Justin McCullough led the way with four rebounds and Keynan Stahl and Gage Scheibmeir had a steal each.
The Cubs had similar trouble with Pitt, falling 44-14.
Eli Works, Brennan Nuessen and Zach Draper each scored three points while Dakota Slocum scored two while leading the team with four rebounds.
Cook, River Kaufman and Chris Gonzalez each had one point.
The Ponies will face Osawatomie on Thursday while the Cubs will face Leon-Bluestem.
