CHANUTE — Iola Blue and Gold, a youth recreational soccer team, played two games Sunday at Chanute’s Community Sports Complex, winning both.
They were to have played at home against Chanute but with work on the rail trail in Iola and no bathrooms at the soccer fields, the games were moved to Chanute.
Iola Blue and Gold beat Chanute 3-0 with Devan Herfurth scoring twice and Matt Karr kicking in the other goal. Mason Key had one assist and three saves while Zach St. Clair had two assists and one save.
Also at Chanute, Iola Blue and Gold defeated Coffeyville 3-1. It got a goal each from Colten Bedell, Colby Works and St. Clair. Key had 14 saves.
Iola last home game was a week ago when it downed Coffeyville 6-1. St. Clair and Braden Plumlee each had two goals while Herfurth and Works each found the net once.
Braden Plumlee had two assists. Mason Snavely and Kendall Jay had an assist. Key had eight saves.
Iola Blue and Gold (5-1) plays Independence at Coffeyville Sunday. It goes to the Leawood Soccer Fest May 19-20.
